Uraiwan (Thiengthanee) Leiding, aka “Li or Lee”, age 68 of Accokeek, MD, passed away quietly on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC after weeks of battling multiple medical issues. Half of us know her by Li and the other half by Lee. The story goes when Li moved to the DC area, she decided to use the name Lee for her new friends; she didn’t use Li since she didn’t want anyone to think she had the word “lie” in her name. She was always that honest and thinking of others. Lee was married to David Leiding on March 22, 1985; they truly lived life to the fullest together while traveling and working around the world in wonderful places. The simplest of pleasures marked her happiest times, talking with friends and family, her love of cooking (all the time) and serving others. Lee shared her and David’s home with friends and family her entire life. Lee’s, from scratch, Thai meals are legendary with all who knew her. Lee was not a soft spoken person, quite the opposite. She was sassy, sometimes brutally honest with very little filter. This made her so easy to love and a joy to be around. Lee could connect with anyone. Even though English was obviously her second language, her ability to reach people was powerful; she made new friends everywhere she went. There was never a moment of doubt what came first to Lee, her absolute love of family! This love was not tempered by expectations, she loved her family without reservation and regardless of circumstance. Lee and her husband David have helped support family members from California to Thailand during their entire lives together, never expecting anything in return, motivated solely by love. We all love and miss Lee/Li already so much, her cooking, her half smile and most of all her honest true love.
Lee is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Linda Burns and Tom Burns; son, William (Billy) Bedry; five grandchildren, Samantha Burns, Julian Morales, Kaida Bedry, Austin Bedry, Devon Bedry; sisters, Chamroonrat Thiengthanee, Doi Khontong and brother, Noom and many loved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will unite on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 for visitation from 9 am – 10 am at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD. Following immediately will be Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Mary’s of Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Rd, Clinton, MD 20735. Interment will be on Thursday, February 14, 2019 @ 1:45 pm at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
