Sylvia E. Carter of Hollywood, Maryland , 72, peacefully departed this life on December 15, 2020, in Lexington Park, Maryland at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Sylvia was born in Park Hall, Maryland on May 4, 1948 to Rosa Catherine (Barnes) and the late George McClain Butler. She had 5 siblings. She received her education from the St. Mary’s County private and public school systems. She was a graduate of Great Mills High School in Great Mills, Maryland. She worked as a childcare provider at Carver Child Care Center in Lexington Park, Maryland. She later worked as a sales/stock clerk at the Naval Air Station Commissary in Patuxent River, Maryland for twenty years. Sylvia was affectionately known as “Esther”. Esther always put her family first. She had three children. She had that “true” and “special” type of love for her children. She truly loved and enjoyed raising them. She had a very special bond with each of them. Her children meant the world to her. On December 23, 1989, Sylvia “Esther” married James Leroy Carter. Sylvia “Esther” continued to put “family first”. She always made sure dinner was on the table when Leroy came home from work. She loved and enjoyed taking care of her home and gardening in her yard. Unfortunately, Sylvia “Esther” became ill and was placed in Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home in September of 2014. Leroy visited and provided support as much as possible. Her daughter, Tinka, did everything within her power to ensure her mother’s stay at Chesapeake Shores Nursing home was comfortable. Sylvia “Esther” was preceded in death by her father, George McClain Butler, mother-in-law, Mary Catherine Carter, father-in-law, Joseph I. Carter, sister-in-law, Elsie C.
