Sherman A Fauntleroy

pro-pic

Sherman A. Fauntleroy, (Spud), was born April 23, 1944, to the late Hampton Fauntleroy Sr., and Mary Fauntleroy in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the third oldest sibling of 16 children.
Sherman accepted Christ at an early age and after moving to the Washington, DC Metro area became a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church.
On May 4, 1996 Sherman was united in Holy Matrimony to Diane Cummings. From this time, Sherman and Diane enjoyed 14 beautiful years of marriage.
Educated in the Westmoreland County Public School System, Sherman began working at an early age. As a young man he held jobs with Potomac Supply Company, Earl Stevens Company, Mundy Points, and Bevens Oyster Company. For 37 years, Sherman worked for Grunley , he was recognized continuously with certificates and awards for his perfect attendance, outstanding leadership, uncompromising work ethic, and general kindness. Sherman retired from Grunley in 2006; however, he kept busy doing things and around the house; especially taking care of his wife Diane and maintaining his yard.
Sherman was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved football, basketball, gold, and fishing. He adored the WASHINGTON REDSKINS through the good and bad times. Sherman enjoyed music; he loved R&B and the Blues, and most of all Gospel. He was thoughtful and kind and loved spending time with family, especially his loving wife. All those who knew Sherman could always depend on him for a good laugh and of his insatiable love of Popeye’s Chicken and seafood which he had at least three to four times a week. One of the things that will be missed the most will Sherman’s good southern cooking on and off the grill.
Sherman was preceded in death by his father, Hampton Fauntleroy, Sr., and brother, Hampton Fauntleroy, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Diane Fauntleroy; mother, Mary Fauntleroy; eight children and twelve grandchildren. His siblings: Lillian C. Brooks, Annette Henry, Joyce A. Campbell, Rosemary Wilson, Maude Campbell, Linda Coleman, Robert T., Albert, Louis C. James, Sr., Lonnie W.,, Sylvester, and Preston Fauntleroy. He also leaves loving ties to Sharon Davis, Norwood (Poochie) Hughes, Victor & Nadira Nunez, and Sandra Alexander; all cousins near and far; Godson, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Services were held at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, 7707 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD on Friday, July 9, 2010. Interment was Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Zion Baptist Church, 1274 Zion Church Road, Kinsale, VA.
