Sarah Geneva Milburn

Sarah Geneva “Sis” Milburn peacefully departed this life at Calvert Medical Center in Prince Frederick, MD at the graceful age of 88. She was born on August 14, 1931, to the late Mary Katherine and Roland Barnes of Beachville, MD.
After attending the Cardinal Gibbons Institute, Sis married the late Alexander Milburn on November 10, 1951. They lived, laughed and loved for 48 years of marriage and 8 wonderful children. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She also attended the Land of Light Home Fellowship with her daughter Melissa. Sis was a dedicated homemaker who loved to pick crabs in the summer for Stones and Evans Seafood.

In 1997, Sis suffered a massive stroke, which left her aphasic (paralysis of the tongue). Upon her recovery, she became a very active participant at the St. Mary’s Medical Adult Day Care Center, which she thoroughly loved. She never wanted to miss a day and as in her words, she was always togged down and wore her prom Queen crown proudly.
Sis was a gentle loving wife, mother, grandmother, Aunt and Friend. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, hearing the good word of the Lord, watching Wheel of Fortune and Bonanza. She loved to laugh especially when she watched her favorite movie Norbit while enjoying something sweet. Most of all she loved being surrounded by family during family gatherings.

Sis looked forward to her birthday every year when the whole family would celebrate her birthday. These were the gatherings that warmed her angelic soul, she laughed until her cheeks hurt at the annual water kickball game and annual water balloon fight where she never seemed to get wet.

Sis was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Milburn, her son Paul, her sisters, Mary Virginia Barnes (Tootsie), Hilda Mae Curtis, and Ida Delores Briscoe, her brothers, Roland Barnes (Nab), Bernard Barnes (Link), Eugene Barnes (Genie), Floyd Barnes and Vernon Barnes.
Sis leaves to uphold and cherish her memory her children, Wayne (Virginia) Milburn of Park Hall, MD, Maxine Giles of Largo, MD, Ernestine Henderson of St. Inigoes, MD, Riselind (Louis Marvin) Barnes of Mechanicsville, MD, Melissa (Brian) Jerdon of Mechanicsville, MD, Goldie Milburn, of Lexington Park MD, Roland Milburn of St. Inigoes MD,. Amos (Candy) Milburn of Davenport, FL. One brother John Benjamin Barnes (Johnnie), three brother-in-laws James Curtis, Solomon Milburn, and Ernest Hall and one sister-inlaw Sandra Barnes. 22 loved and spoiled Grandchildren, 60 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sis will truly be missed.

Family and friends will unite on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 for visitation at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 Saint Peter Claver Rd, St Inigoes, MD 20684. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
