Ruben Wayne Thompson

pro-pic

On Sunday, July 11, 2010, Ruben Wayne Thompson was called to eternal rest at the Civista Memorial Hospital.

Wayne was born January 2, 1958, to Emmett and Thelma Thompson in Trion, Georgia. The family later moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where Wayne graduated from Howard High School; attended Chattanooga Tennessee College for two years where he studied music. God blessed Wayne with the gift of music! He was very talented and was able to play music by ear and read music; he played the keyboard, the guitar, and the saxophone. Anyone that knew Wayne knew his passion for music. Wayne and music were as one. He also enjoyed watching his favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys, cracking jokes, and playing in local bands; he will truly be missed!

Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 13 years from December 16, 1983 to November 29, 1996 and retired as a Navy Petty Officer. He was decorated and received several medals such as Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal.

In April 1986, he met the love of his life, Nancy Smith, and they joined in holy matrimony on April 28, 1990. From this union they were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Erica Thompson.

Wayne leaves a legacy of love for his family: wife of twenty years, Nancy Thompson; daughter Erica Thompson, four brothers Ronald Thompson (Carolyn), Lamar Thompson (Carmen), Jerald Thompson (Mable), Maurice Thompson; special friends Bernard Stewart, Joseph Cooper; Henry and Caroline Kenely, Reverend Derrick Brown and family, a host of other relatives and many friends.
