“May the life I’ve lived speak for me.”

On Thursday, December 30, 2010, in her home surrounded by loved ones, Rose Helen Shade, at the age of 84, entered peacefully into eternal rest. Helen was born on November 25, 1926, in Hurry, Maryland to the late William H. and Millie Elizabeth Mills. She received her formal education in the St. Mary’s County Public School system.

On January 31, 1946, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Thomas Maurice Shade, Sr. From that union 14 beautiful children were born – 8 boys and 6 girls. She worked briefly at what is now called the Patuxent River Naval Air Base, in Lexington Park, Maryland. Untiring dedication and love for her children brought her home to care for them.

Helen lived life to the fullest. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother to all of her children and grandchildren. She truly enjoyed her family gatherings as well as card games with family and friends. She also loved to travel with family as often as possible, dance, spend time with her sisters, read and work jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her ten wonderful children: Agnes J. Taylor (Donald – deceased); Thomas Maurice Jr. (Gloria Jean), Melvin Levi (Darlene), Millie Shade-Nellis (William), Darryl Eric (Cynthia), Alvin Neil (Brenda), Helen Shade-Cauley (Keith), Rose K. Weaver (Wallace); Eldridge Eugene, and Jesse Michael (Denise); six sisters, Mary E. Settles, Agnes G. Carter, Lillian T. Fenwick, Mildred C. Kerrick, Ann R. Bowman, Mary J. Price- Chase; 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great, great
