
Peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2011 Robert Leon Smith went home to be with the Lord. Family and friends will unite on Saturday, July 2, from 10 A.M. until time of service 11 A.M. at St. Marks Union AME Church 45685 Happyland Road Valley Lee, MD. Interment will follow after the service at the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.Robert Leon Smith was born Tuesday, January 15, 1952 the third of four children born to Thelma Luvenia “”Gladden”” and Edward Allen Smith, Sr. in Valley Lee, Maryland. He departed this earthly life Friday, June 24, 2011 at 4:45 PM from the portal of the Genesis Nursing Center Waldorf, MD,.Bobby attended schools in St. Mary’s County (Carver Elem; Esperanza Middle; Great Mills High School).Robert served in the US Army form October 1, 1971 honorably discharged as Sargent May 28, 1973. He received a letter of Congratulation from the Commanding Officer Company E, 1st Battalion; 5th Combat Support Training Brigade US Army Training Center, Infantry Fort Dix, New Jersey for being selected as Brigade Commander’s Orderly; He was awarded 1st Battalion 83rd Artillery Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Performance of duty during the Annual Army Training Test (ATT); He was also presented the Department of Army Certificate of Training for successfully completing the 8th Infantry Division Artillery Basic Leadership Course and the National Defense Medal.He is pre-deceased by his mother Thelma L. Smith and older brother Edward A. Smith Jr. grandchildren Taylor and Richard Jr. Woodard. Survived by his father Edward A. Smith Sr., Sister Clarissa J. Smith, Brother John M. Smith,(Shirley R. Smith), daughters; Ann L. “”Morgan”” Woodard (Richard A. Woodard Sr.) Charlene Ball, grandchildren Ruc A. Woodard, Melodee Z. Morgan Woodard, D’Montre’ E. Morgan Woodard, Ashley, Alicia, Tre, Lorenzo, Ledgen, one great grandchild.Pall bears: Calvin E Dickens, Charles Junior Gladden, Steven D. Maddox, Decato E. Burke, Richard A. Woodard Sr., and Stephen L. Morgan.Honorary Pall bears: Charles E Morgan, George T. Travers, John Maddox, Edward A. Smith III, and Medgar L. Hawkins.Home going services will be held Saturday July 2, 2011 Public viewing 10:00am to 11:00am, services at 11:00am at St. Marks UAME Church Valley Lee Maryland, officiated by Rev. Pastor Irvin E. Beverly of Bethesda United Methodist Church Valley Lee Maryland.
