
Richard Edward Nelson, 94, of Washington, DC entered Eternal Life on January 12, 2021 at his home. Richard was born in 1926 in Maddox, Md. At the age of 18, he registered for the Military Draft and later served in the Navy in the 1940s during World War II. His days in the Navy were forever part of who he was, as he shared those experiences with everyone. He stayed involved with Veterans organizations throughout the remainder of his life. After the Navy he worked as a brick mason. He was married to his late wife, Rosalie (Hall) Nelson on April 9, 1950 at St. Augustine Church in Washington, DC. She preceded him in death on October 29, 1997. Richard is survived by several nieces and nephews from the Nelson and Neale families, many extended cousins, a step-daughter, Ann Craig, his step-granddaughter, Veronica (Bonnie), several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
The son of the late Walter Harrison Nelson and Lucy (Neale) Nelson, Richard is the last of their offspring. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Nelson, John Nelson, Mary Milburn, George Nelson, Laura Lawson, Lucy Brown, and Grace Miles. Family and friends will gather at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD on January 28 from 12 noon until time of service at 1:00PM. There will be a private internment for Richard, as he will be laid to rest with his late wife, Rosalie, at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD.
