Ramon (Raymond) Cortez, Butler, Sr., born August 8, 1936, in Alexandria, VA to the Late Marion Brown Butler and Agnes E. Corbin Butler. After a year of illness, the Lord called him home on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Ramon attended Alexandria, VA Public Schools. He was a member of the U. S. Air Force for 7 years, whereafter, he worked for the Defense Communication Agency in Arlington, VA and retired after 37 years. Ramon had a second retirement after he worked for the State Department in the Office of Diplomatic Police Security. Ramon was dedicated to his work and received many monetary awards. He also worked for Lesco in Alexandria, VA with corporate offices in Huntsville, Alabama. Ramon leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Mary Deloris Butler from South Boston, VA; two loving and devoted sons, Ramon, Jr. of Springfield, VA and Gerald of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren, 1st Lt. Nicole Butler, Ft. Bragg, NC, Michelle Butler attending Old Dominion University and Julian and Jazmyn both of Fredericksburg, VA. Uncle Ramon was so looking forward to seeing his 1st greatgrand child to be born in May 2011, Little Mister Cameron Cortez, and a Godson, Keith Ramon Bogans. Ramon leaves to cherish his memory a loving sister, Juanita Jackson and a devoted brother, Leroy Butler both of Alexandria, VA, two very close brothers-in-law, Harold jackson of Alexandria, VA and James Harris of Washington, DC; one sister-in-law, Odessa Fleming of Arlington, VA; and a host of wonderful and devoted nieces, nephews and friends; a wonderful church family that called and prayed for him often, if not daily. Ramon enjoyed fishing and boating with Deloris, family and friends. Often times a contest for the first and largest fish was held and we all know who didn’t win. In 1973 Ramon carried his family on the adventure of their lives to Stuttgart, Germany. We were there for five years where he worked for the Department of Defense as a Communications Specialist. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters: Regina Harris, Deloris Harris, Audrey Turner and Jean Patton. We love and truly miss them. Ramon had a wonderful and fulfilling life. He was loved by all.

Ceremony Details: Visitation Friday, February 18th from 10 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church, 47359 Lincoln Avenue, Lexington Park, MD. Interment: Bethel Cemetery, Alexandria, VA.
