Phillip Leo Harris

Phillip Leo Harris, 56 of Lexington Park, MD, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Georgetown University Hospital after a rapid onset illness. Phillip was born on October 1, 1963 to Evelyn Theresa Harris and his father, Lemmie Jay Harris.

Phillip was a graduate of Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County. He worked for years as maintenance for Lincoln military housing at Pax River Naval Base. Phil worked more than he had time off; holding multiple jobs to care for his family. Phillip would always say “I got more time behind me than in front of me”; working until he became disabled in 2015. Phillip was well known to the community as a painter and auto detailer.

Phillip enjoyed spending time with his family and going to serve the Lord throughout the week. He was a member of Pray Praise and Promise Christ Church, as well as God’s House of Refuge where he was an active member, playing the drums, which he loved. Phil loved helping people; always checking to make sure everyone was taken care of. He was crazy about his children and grandchildren. Phillip would never be seen without a cup of coffee, leaving behind a coffee stain on his mother’s rug, which she refused to change because he would come right back through with another spill. He was devoted to helping his “Mama” and was always talking about being on the phone with his Cousin Anne. Anne could tell you that even though Phillip was sick, he never complained. He loved music and recently had a dream of starting a gospel band this summer.

Philip was preceded in death by his daughter, LaTaka Denise Harris; sister, Joyce Catherine Harris; brothers, Dennis Ray Harris and Jerome Harris; uncles, Sylvester Bennett, and Charles Price.

He leaves to cherish his mother, Evelyn T. Harris; daughters, LaTorie and LaQuisha Harris; sister, SueAnne Price and brother, William Harris; his grandchildren, Ta’Zyia and Ta Kiyah Brooks, TaRahji Young and Elijah Harris-Pearson and a host of family and friends. The memories that we have for our father, son and cousin will live on forever.

A special thank you to Anne Butler for your support, helping Phil while most of his immediate family lives long distance and Linda Mason (mother of his children) for being a big support during his last moments of life. Thank you to each and every one of you for your love and support.

Family and friends will unite on Monday, February 3, 2020 for visitation at 10 am until time of service at 11 am at God’s House of Refuge, 46694 Midway Drive, Lexington Park, MD. Interment following at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

To Harris Family may God comfort everyone during this difficult time of sorrow. Philip was my brother’s best friend (Tony B) that passed in March 2019 Philip was there to visit me while I was going through the grieving process, it’s very sad that you all have to process this same ordeal of losing a love one so heart breaking. Philip will occasionally drive by just to check up on me and I really appreciate that now to hear news of his passing is devastating. Philip brought so much joy to everyone around him.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
