Mary Agnes Briscoe Gray was called home on March 18, 2023, to be with the Lord. She was affectionately known as Aggie by her family and close friends. Mary was born on June 25, 1943, to the late James C. Briscoe Sr. and Catherine E. Collins Briscoe in Chaptico, Maryland. She attended the Immaculate Conception Church of Mechanicsville, Maryland, and Our Lady of the Wayside Church of Chaptico, Maryland.
Mary was educated in the St. Mary’s County public school system, graduating from Banneker High School in 1961. After graduation, she began her career in the food service industry in Washington D.C. at the Department of Commerce. She returned to St. Mary’s County, and on August 1, 1970, Mary united in holy matrimony to the late Joseph “Bo Diddley” Gray. She was a stay-at-home mom who nurtured five children. Mary was a hard worker who found time to do catering and caregiving for adults and provided childcare for several families. Once her children graduated from high school, she continued her food service career working for the following companies Riverside Grill Café, Perkins Restaurant, and the Department of Aging, where she retired.
She loved to read romantic novels and listen to music. Mary was best known for her famous potato salad dish, which family and friends always requested for various functions. She was a social butterfly who regularly attended functions; if the music played, you would find her on the dance floor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Tyler Thurston; granddaughter, Demetria Williams; in-laws, Nancy Gray and Julius Paul Gray; sister, Dolores F. Briscoe; brother, Mark A. Briscoe; brothers-in-law, Paul “Gene” Curtis, Paul “Pete” Gray, and Joseph “Pipe/Sandy” Gray; sisters-in-law, Mary “Maggie” Worthington, Margaret Isabelle Bush, and Mary Christine Curtis.
