With the same dignity, quietness and smile for which he is known, Leonard Eugene Bonneau, Sr., closed his eyes and was translated into a “full life” with God on Saturday morning, May 21, 2011, at his residence.He was born on October 30, 1939, to the late Ernest and Alma Bonneau in Charleston, South Carolina. At around the age of 3 he was brought to Washington, DC to live. There he was raised by his Aunt, the late Gussie Polite Dawson, who taught him great spiritual values. Leonard accepted the Lord at a young age at the Bible Way Temple Church.Leonard was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System where he graduated from Armstrong Technical School. He then entered into the military, the Army Reserves. In 1966, he married Barbara Walker and from that union there was a son and daughter, Leonard, Jr. and Lisa. Throughout his career as an Electronics Engineer Leonard was employed by Augmentation, Comsat, Intelsat, and Howard University Hospital. On the job is where he developed his love for travel. His occupation gave him the opportunity to travel the world to destinations such as Japan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Thailand, Haiti, Nova Scotia, Rome, France, and Hawaii.Leonard was a kind-hearted loving father, grandfather and friend. Life to Leonard was about his children, he loved them dearly and he ensured they received the best education. Whether he was standing on the sidelines at a football game or helping his granddaughter, Lakia, with a science project he was always there. He also had many hobbies which included playing tennis, traveling the world, cars, and photography. He was also an all around handyman and he loved to build things. Leonard was an extraordinary gifted man and father.He is survived by his son Leonard Bonneau, Jr., daughter Lisa Crawley, former wife and friend Barbara Jones, sister Janimel Scott, daughter-in-law Marie Bonneau, son-in-law Dwight Crawley, four grandchildren: Kevin, Lakia, Zaynah and Isaiah, one great-grandchild Kevin III, nephew Rick Polite, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his 13 year old Labrador Retriever Adrianne.
