
Joseph B. Johnson, 86, of Callaway, MD, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2020. He was born on March 13, 1934 in Leonardtown, MD, to James William and Alice Caroline Johnson. He was educated in the St. Mary’s County Public School and graduating from Banneker High School in 1953. He continued his education at Charles County Community College , now known as College of Southern MD (CSM). Joseph served in the United States (U.S.) Navy for two years. He was honorably discharged from the Reserves in 1962. After his military career ended, he worked as a carpenter’s assistant until he was gainfully employed by St. Mary’s College of MD where he retired in 1996 with 32 years of service. Joe was united in holy matrimony to Myrtle Lawrence on October 31, 1959 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD, where he was a member. After marriage he moved to Callaway, MD and became an active member of Holy Face Catholic Church as an Usher and helped with other projects. Joe was an active member of The Knights of St. Johns Commandery #370 for 64 years holding office in his Commandery, The Maryland Regiment and a Fifth Noble Degree Member. He received many awards from his job and organizations. He would spend time with the Lord in saying his Rosary every day. He enjoyed live religious shows, gospel music, traveling, sports and western shows and spending time with family and friends. He was a very humble and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great grandfather and friendHe leaves to cherish his fond memories his children, Benjamin Johnson, Oklahoma, Cynthia Johnson, Mechanicsville, MD, Glenda Fenwick (Charles), Munford, Tennessee, Lionel Johnson, Hyattsville, MD, Tony Johnson (Heather), Maine, Connie Mackey, Virginia Beach, VA, Darleen Outing (John), Clinton MD, Kelvin Lawrence, Oklahoma, Karen Thomas (Michael), Hollywood MD, Cortina Nelson (Oldest Grand-daughter/Daughter) Jacksonville, FL, Brian Ball (Shannon), West Virginia; two additional sons-in-law, Joseph Green and Michael Nelson and eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one twin brother, James Johnson; one sister-in-law, Rossetta Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Myrtle L. Johnson; daughter, Christine Green; granddaughter, Yameka Rodgers and sister-in-law, Delores Johnson and niece, Ann Johnson. On Monday, January 4, 2021 visitation will begin at 10 am until time of service at 11 am at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 38576 Brett Way, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 22020 Chancellors Run Rd, Great Mills, MD 20634.
