The Life of John Pinkney Young, Sr.John Pinkney Young, Sr., beloved son of the late William Pinkney Young and Agnes Marie (Yorkshire) Young was born on March 4, 1925 in Chaptico, Maryland. He departed this life on August 20, 2020, at the blessed age of 95 years “young”.He attended the local schools in St. Mary’s County and graduated from Banneker High School in 1943. He was united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony to Agnes Lillian Thomas on October 1, 1945, at Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Chaptico, Maryland. This union was blessed with 12 children (9 boys and 3 girls). On October 1, 2020, they would have celebrated 75 years of wedded bliss.John was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Morganza, Maryland. John held various jobs and worked as a farmer, construction worker, truck driver, and was self-employed owning his own dump truck. He had employment stints with the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. John retired in 1987 with 41 years of service and was an active member of the Teamsters Local Union 639. For many years during his off-hours he drove the Mennonites/Amish to their doctor’s appointments and transported their goods to and from their place of need.John’s favorite pastime included watching a variety of TV sports games, especially baseball. He enjoyed attending local baseball/softball games and frequent them often. One of his highlights was attending a minor league baseball game to see the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at the Regency Stadium in Waldorf. He enjoyed watching the Judge Judy Show, playing pool, doing Sudoku puzzles and maintaining his lawn. His other pastime was enjoying his favorite foods, which included fried oysters, stuffed ham, and stewed tomatoes, that his wife Lillian prepared for him.John leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Agnes Lillian, his children, John Pinkney, Jr. Young (Brunetta-deceased), Jerome Young, Joseph Young (Cheryl), Paul Young (Angie), George Young (Debbie), Charles Young (Rita), Ida Goodwin (Joseph), David Young (Jacqueline), Brenda Dade (Jessie), Nellie Herbert (Charles), Robert Young (Meschelle), Devon Young, his sibling Mary (Young) Haighler, grandchildren (30), great-grandchildren (12), great-great-grandchild (1), a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He is preceded in death by his parents William Pinkney Young and Agnes Marie (Yorkshire) Young, his siblings Annie (Young) Hill, Francis Young, Alice (Young) Young, Veronica (Young) Ware, Loretta (Young) Shields, and Timothy Bowman, and his grandson George Derrick Gross.Public visitation will begin at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am on Friday, August 28, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 28297 Old Village Rd, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment to follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, (Helen) Mechanicsville, MD.
