John O. Smith peacefully departed this life and begun his journey of everlasting peace, tranquility and eternal rest on May 22, 2020 in Leonardtown, MD. Affectionately known as “J.O.” the One and Only as he often introduced himself; was a very loving family man. John was born on September 17, 1925 to the late Otho Oham and Lillian Christine Smith of Valley Lee, MD.

Columbus. John was educated through the St. Mary’s County Public school system attending Jarboesville Elementary and the Cardinal Gibbons Catholic School in Ridge, MD and completed the 12th grade. As a student, John drove the school bus
for his fellow students and classmates at the young age of sixteen. John was drafted into the United States Army and served in World War II.
