Joanne Begg, 74, of Hollywood, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2022, at Washington Hospital Center, due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Joanne was born October 9, 1948, in Washington, DC, to Gloria Marie Tippett and the late Joseph G.Tippett, Sr. She was the second of six children.

After graduating from La Reine High School, Joanne worked as a telephone operator. Throughout her professional years, she ran a successful distribution business for ten years and was most recently an office manager for her son. As a young adult, Joanne held the impressive title of head majorette for the District Heights Fire Department, where her father was chief. Her father was proud to watch his daughter lead her team to many awards. Joanne went on to have four children, which sparked her immense interest in softball and baseball. Some of her most significant accomplishments and happiest memories came from coaching her daughter’s softball teams and becoming president of the Waldorf Little League, a title she held for many years. Hobbies she enjoyed included going to the racetrack, watching the school and sporting events of her beloved grandchildren, and beach trips with her high school friend, Linda Vermillion. Joanne was a great cook; everyone loved her potato salad and cheesecake. Joanne was an exceptional mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years,Glenn Begg, Sr.; her children,Tracie Mattera (Joey), Ronald Douglas “Doug” Kans (Kerri), Shannon Kans, Deanne Kans, Glenn Begg Jr. (Jessica), Michael Begg (Michelle); her grandchildren, Austin Taylor (Danielle), Gavin Marcella, Christopher Mattera, Kameron Kans, Alexis Marcella, Kara Marcella, Halee Kans, Marissa Marcella, Nicholas Mattera, Autumn Cook (Troy), Kailynn Pennell, Joseph Begg, Scarlet Begg and Sadie Begg. Her first great grandchild is due in January. She is also survived by her mother, Gloria Tippett; sisters, Nancy Murphy (Mike) and Donna Lux (John); brothers, Dave Tippett and Steve Tippett (Tammi), and ten nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph G. Tippett Sr.; her brother, Joseph G. Tippett Jr., and her sisters-in-law, Marlene Tippett and Rhonda Tippett.

Joanne’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 43950 St. John’s Road, Hollywood, Maryland 20636. Reverend Raymond Schmidt will preside over the service. Visitations will be held from 9:30 – 10:00 am (immediate family) and 10:00 – 11:00 am (public visitation). A Catholic Mass will be held at 11:00 am with the Interment immediately following at St. John’s Catholic Church cemetery. A reception will be held at the Hollywood Fire Department, 24801 Three Notch Road Hollywood, Maryland 20636, immediately following the Interment.

Pallbearers will be Doug Kans, Christopher Mattera, Bruce Ragione, Autumn Cook, Alexis Marcella and Kara Marcella.

Honorary pallbearers are Austin Taylor, Gavin Marcella and Kameron Kans.
