Geraldine Spell, affectionately known as “Beanie” or Geri”, was born on December 20, 1946, to Emanuel and Doretha Spell in Wilson County, N. C. Geraldine was called home on Friday, January 29, 2021.Geraldine Spell was educated in the Wilson County Public School System graduating from Darden High School in 1964. After graduating, she went to Washington, DC and joined the work force. She moved back to Wilson, NC and had two daughters. She later moved to Lowell, Massachusetts and worked at Raytheon Technologies for several years. In 1978, she moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she lived and worked until her passing.After moving to Alexandria, VA, she attended and graduated from culinary school and started her own catering business, Doretha’s Catering. Geraldine loved cooking for family and friends and volunteered in her community. She was also was known for many of her dishes, especially her macaroni and cheese and buffalo chicken wings. She also loved growing plants and decorating for every holiday of the year. In 2005, she received a kidney transplant and thereafter volunteered with the National Kidney Foundation participating in its annual fund raising walks. As a result, of her volunteer work in the Alexandria Community, Geraldine received many awards and in 2019, she received the Alexandria Senior Citizen Award.Geraldine was preceded in death by her loving parents Emanuel & Doretha Spell, sister Jo Ann Artis, brother Vernon Lee Spell & her grandson De’Sean Emmanuel Spell.Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory her two daughter’s Stephanie W. Spell & grandson Desmond Emmanuel Spell of Dale City, Va, Tracia N. Spell (Aaron) of Dallas, NC, one brother Raymond (Jean) Spell of Wilson, NC, three sisters, Mildred Spell of Wilson, NC, Helen I. Spell-Taylor of Wilson, NC, Patricia Owens of Washington DC. Special cousin Blake Tisdale, special son Chuck Singleton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11 at the Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery in Wilson, NC on Saturday, February 13 at 1 p.m. Celebration of Life for Geraldine Spell
