Gerald Tonic

On Saturday, January 16, 2021, Gerald Tonic departed this life at Georgetown University Hospital. Gerald was born on February 8, 1952, at Freeman Hospital in Washington D.C. to Alexander and Lizzie Tonic. Gerald was educated in the D.C. Public School System and graduated from Chamberlain Vocational High School in 1971. Gerald worked for many years with the District of Columbia State Government. He was later employed with Saint Elizabeth Hospital until his retirement. Gerald was a loving, funny, compassionate and kind man. He enjoyed and loved his family. He was an avid lover of jazz music. His interests included being a voice for activism and in what was fair and right, especially for black people. He was a self-less and genuine man with a care-free personality. He leaves us with wonderful memories to cherish. As you get your wings in Heaven, know that you take a part of each of us with you. Your big smile and the great times we’ve shared with you at our big family gatherings will never be forgotten. We will keep you in our hearts forever. We love you. You will be dearly missed by your family, friends and loved ones. He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Alexander (Bonnie), Dennis, Steven, Byron (Wanda) and Edward; sisters, Carol, and Louise Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Tonic and his mother, Lizzie Tonic. On Saturday, January 23, 2021, visitation will begin at 9:00 am until time of service at 10:00 am at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Rd, Waldorf, MD. Due to COVID, attendance at the Service is restricted to immediate family members only. Interment to follow at Maryland National Cemetery, 1300 Baltimore Avenue, Laurel, MD.
