Fred Leroy Brown Sr. was born on January 29th, 1941, in Brodnax, VA, to James Elroy Brown
and Mable E. Brown. Fred was the oldest brother to James F. Brown (Boo), Claxton Louis
Brown, Otis Brown & Harold Brown, who all preceded him in death. He attended Brunswick
County Public School and graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in
Lawrenceville, VA. After high school, Fred joined the United States Army in 1959, serving
loyally and honorably before retiring in 1984. During his tenure in the Army, he served two tours
in the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry
w/Palm, 2 Overseas Service Bars, and too many to list. He also earned the name Master
Blaster. After retirement, he worked as a civilian for an additional 20+ years with the United
States Air Force, retiring again in 2006 and receiving the flag flown over the U.S. Capitol by a
United States Senator for his 45 total combined years of dedicated service in the Federal
Government.
In 1968, Fred married the love of his life Elizabeth Brown who he loved dearly, and made sure
he took his last breath next to her. During this union, they had two children, Tonya Brown and
Fred L. Brown Jr., to whom he devoted his life to raising and pouring all the love he had into
them.
God has called home a true angel and hero, and he will always be remembered. At a young
age, he dedicated his life to God, kept his promise by doing his best to love everyone he
encountered, and loved spoiling his family/friends. If you want to laugh, you go see Fred. If you
need comfort, you go see Fred. If you just want to talk, you go see Fred, and if you want to
touch a real-life angle, you hug Fred. No matter where you were, if you needed Fred, he was
coming.
Fred L. Brown Sr. leaves behind his cherished darling wife (Elizabeth Brown), Two children
(Tonya Brown & Fred L. Brown Jr.), a special daughter-in-law who had no fault (Tikeya Brown),
five grandchildren (Tavon Brown (29), DaSha Hewlin (27), Stephen Brown (22), Fred L. Brown
III (15) and Corey Brown (8), Two great-granddaughters (Ariya Hewlin (2) and Eden Brown (1),
