
Ethel Mae Parker, 90, native of Newark, N.J., longtime resident of Washington, D.C., and resident of Newport News, VA, was called home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was educated in Newark and D. C. Public Schools, earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Miner Teacher’s college and a master’s degree in Special Education from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Ethel Mae was married to the late Benjamin F. Parker. From this union, four children were born, Judith Ann, Dennis Joseph, Michael Francis and Nabeehah (Jeane). Ethel Mae enjoyed helping “Parker” with his community projects, and also enjoyed a wide variety of music, art, flowers, travel, swimming, and most-of-all-being with family, especially her grand and great-grandkids. She was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Parker; and son, Michael F. Parker. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Judity P. Drew (Randy) of Newport News, VA, Dennis J. Parker (Luella) of Palo Alto, Calif.; and Nabeehah (Jeanne) Parker (Khalil) of Philadelphia, PA.
Viewing is being held at the O.H. Smith Funeral Home, Newport News, VA on Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Another viewing will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010, from 9 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2021 Rholde Island Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests tht contributions be made at your local Hospice agency; or the charity of your choice.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, Waldorf, Maryland.
