On July 6, 2012 Dorothy LaFarn Harvey entered into the eternal rest of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her family.She was born to the late Thomas and Edmonia Holmes on December 7th, 1933 in Goochland, Virginia. She was one of twelve children.Love of family and hard work were instilled in Dorothy at an early age. Some of her favorite childhood memories were when her and her sister Flora would play tricks on their youngest brother, Arthur.Educated in the Goochland County School system, she was the Salutarian of her graduating class.Dorothy left her hometown to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C. Her dream was to become a Librarian. Her path took her into a different direction. She held a number of positions within the Federal government, finally retiring in 1994 from the Internal Revenue Service as a Supervisory Management Analyst. Dorothy lived a full, loving and enriched life. She was a simple woman – who believed in, and loved God and her family.Dorothy, aka (affectionately known as) Ducky, Aunt Plunk, and mom had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of both Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church in Goochland, VA and Free Gospel Deliverance Temple in Coral Hills, MD.Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Alvin M. Harvey, her parents Thomas and Edmonia Holmes, three sisters, and one brother.Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Marquis and Gaelan; daughter, Turula and adopted daughter, Annette Harvey; three grandchildren, Jamille, Garry and Bryan; four sisters, Annie Simms, Flora Baylock, Dora Ross, and Virginia Price; three brothers John Holmes, Robert Holmes and Arthur Holmes, brother- and sister in laws, and a host of nieces and nephews.
