
Peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2011 Denise Poindexter Felder went home to be with the Lord. Family and friends will unite on Saturday, September 17, from 12 noon until time of service 2 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Chapel 1045 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11238-2507. Interment will be private.
Denise Poindexter-Felder was born to Floyd and Bernethea Poindexter on August 31st, 1952. Denise, often cheerfully announcing herself as “The Pretty Black Woman from Brooklyn” was born in raised in South Brooklyn, New York.
Denise was lovingly known for her energetic smile and grace which made her the center of attention in every room she entered. A virtuous strong willed proud woman of God, she was an AMAZING Mother and AWESOME Grandmother. She sincerely valued her relationships with her three children and repeatedly splurged on her four grandchildren every opportunity she could. Lovingly nick-named “Sugar Mama” by her grandchildren, Denise possessed a remarkable irreplaceable love that will truly be missed.
Denise was known to be outspoken and determined to get what she wanted out of every situation. A strong yet warmhearted woman, Denise opened her home and kitchen to everyone. She was an amazing cook and didn’t hesitate to whip something up for any and every event. Denise was the Ultimate Shopper! She loved to go shopping (for anything!)… Denise was grounded and very family oriented, once you were in her company she instantly became your Mom, Sister, Grandma, Auntie, Confidant or life-long friend. Denise was always dependable, generous, trustworthy and available to lend a helping hand. She had the power to love, comfort, mentor and motivate her loved ones. She had a Heart of Gold and never slighted anyone; she made everyone feel welcomed and loved in her presence.
Denise was a go-getter in every aspect of her life she was a career driven woman with an elaborate professional resume which highlights her early career as a Flight Attendant, Bank Teller, Accountant, and later a retired New York City Board of Education Para-Professional.
There are no words that can truly express how much she will be missed but we know Heaven has certainly gained an ANGEL!
Denise leaves to carry on her legacy: Three children, Nicole Purvis, Bryson Felder, Freddie Felder III (Duke); One Son-In-Law Damon Purvis; Four Grandchildren, Isaiah Purvis, Justin Purvis, Chase Purvis, and Brooklynn Felder; Mother Bernethea Poindexter; Five Brothers-Tyrone Poindexter, Phillip Edwards, John Poindexter (Garfield), Julius Poindexter, Rodney Poindexter; Seven Sisters- Marilyn Paulson, Barbara Spruill, Candice Capers, Martha Johnson (Pop), Audrey Poindexter (Vette), Vernell Poindexter, Minnie Poindexter (Joann); former husband Freddie Felder Jr. and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, neighbors, and dear friends.
Preceding her in death and greeting her at the Glorious Gates of Heaven are her father Floyd and elder brother Ronald (Chuck).
