Constance Elaine Barnes, 67, of Lexington Park, Maryland, passed away into eternal peace on January 15, 2019 after a long illness. Elaine, as she was known within her family and to her many friends, was born on January 7, 1952 in Leonardtown, Maryland to the late James R. and Agnes E. (Price) Barnes. As a child, she attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School before transitioning to St. Mary’s County Public Schools, attending Esperanza Middle School and Great Mills High School.

Elaine enjoyed a 30-year career with the Head Start Program in St. Mary’s County Public Schools before retiring in 2012. She lovingly taught hundreds of young children over those decades, who knew they could depend on “Miss Elaine” for words of encouragement and patient instruction as they prepared for Kindergarten. Elaine’s smile and laughter could brighten any classroom and her former students fondly remember their time with her.

Elaine will be remembered for her extreme kindness and generosity to every person she encountered. She never knew a stranger, as she would not hesitate to introduce herself to someone new and engage them in conversation. Elaine easily connected with people and she had a gift for uplifting those who had the privilege of meeting her. Her family and friends will miss their long chats with her, but take comfort in knowing Elaine is now home with her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved to share with anyone and everyone.

Elaine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andre and Jessica Barnes, of Crofton, Maryland; beloved grandsons, Elliott and Harrison Barnes; siblings Denise Barnes-Campbell, Marilyn Barnes, and Kenneth Barnes (Sherri); her aunts Cecelia Price, Frances Perrin (Ellsworth), Evelyn Harris, and Alice Chase; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews across her extended family. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Grace Elizabeth Bush and Roland Timothy Barnes.

Family will unite with friends for Elaine’s celebration of life on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 10:00 am until time of service 11:00 am at Life Community Church of God, 22512 Chancellors Run, Great Mills, MD 20634. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Building Fund for Life Community Church of God, of which Elaine was a faithful member for 37 years.
