Dwight “Peanut” Franklin Haley, 69, of Waldorf, MD, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
Born on September 15, 1953 in the District of Columbia, he was the son of the late Edward Haley Sr. and Doris Haley (Pulliam). Early in his career he was an equipment operator, a trade he thoroughly enjoyed. Before retiring, he was the manager at several A&P grocery store locations, Food Lion, and a Little Debbie Snack Cake independent distributor. Peanut enjoyed working in the yard and relaxing with an ice cold Budweiser. He was always willing to help a friend in need, whatever the task would have been. Peanut loved animals and adopted many dogs through the years. He enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. Peanut was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and took delight in the rivalry with Washington Redskins fans.
In addition to his parents, Peanut is proceeded in death by his brothers, Carroll Haley, Edward Haley Jr., Tommy Haley, Anthony Haley, and David Haley. Peanut is survived by his wife, Carol Haley; daughters, Michelle Haley of Colonial Beach, VA and Lisa Simmons of King George, VA; step-daughter, Angela Bishop of Hughesville, MD; brothers, Michael Haley of Stafford, VA and James Haley of Unionville, VA; sisters, Barbara Palvec of Joilet, IL, Doris Ann Anderson of Scotts Ferry, FL, Ruby Haley of Summerfield, FL, and Mazie Haley of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren Brandon Simmons of King George, VA, Bryce Simmons of King George, VA and Dayton Bishop of Hughesville, MD; step-mother Patricia Bowie of Conway, SC; ex-wife Rita Wedding of Colonial Beach, VA; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Peanut in the banquet room of Scott’s II at 7050 Port Tobacco Road, Welcome, MD on March 18, 2023 at 3:00 for family and friends. It was one of his favorite past time hang outs.
